Friday, March 26, 2010 - Fire crews were called to the area of 2400 New London Turnpike around 4:00 pm yesterday for a rapidly moving brush fire. Engine 4 arrived on scene and reported a working brush fire and called for assistance immediately. Engine 5, Rescue 3, Battalion 1 and Car 31 assisted at the scene. The fire was knocked down in 20 minutes.
Although we have had significant rainfall, a little bit of warm weather and a strong breeze is all it takes to dry out brush during the Spring. That is exactly what happened yesterday on New London Turnpike. The breeze was strong enough to dry out the under-brush and push the fire through the woods and grass.
Damage from the fire was limited and noone was hurt. The fire was accidently started by a neighbor in the area.
IT IS IMPORTTANT TO REMIND EVERYONE THAT WE ARE NOW IN BRUSH FIRE SEASON AND THERE SHOULD BE NO OUTSIDE FIRES!!!!
