Wednesday, April 15, 2009 12:28 - A fast moving brush fire was reported in the rear of 630 Whaley Hollow Road at 12:28 pm on Wednesday afternoon. Assistant Chief Scott Tucker was first on scene and reported a working brush fire with partial involvement of a backyard shed. Engine 7 was the first due engine company commanded by Lieutenant Kevin Cady. Engine 4 and Engine 5 came in behind Engine 7 for manpower assistance. Rescue 3 was at the scene initially to assist with the knock down of the fire, but was put back in service to handle EMS runs. Western Coventry Tanker 18 and a Lake Mishnock FD Tanker provided a water supply. Companies were tied up on scene for 1 1/2 hours. Chief Robert Seltzer established "Whaley Hollow Command" upon arrival on scene and Chief Tucker was in command of Operations. The head of the fire was knocked down in about 15 minutes and the remaining time on scene consisted of wet down. There were no injuries associated with the fire. The cause of the fire was open burning of yard waste and leaves.
