Cat Rescued!!!!

Engine 4 responded to Fairway Drive at approximately 4:45 pm on Saturday afternoon to assist a resident with a cat problem. The cat was sitting on a branch in a tree and refused to come down. Captain Scott Murray and Firefighter James Harrington conducted the daring rescue and saved the cat!!!

Engine 5 Responds Mutual Aid to the Anthony Fire Department

The Anthony Fire Department responded to 21 Long Pond Drive at approximately 3:30 pm Wednesday afternoon for a reported brush fire. The fire was actually located on the property of the Coventry Housing Authority. Central Coventry Engine 5 was called into the scene at 3:35 pm to assist crews already working on scene. The fire was knocked down quickley and all companies returned back in service at 4:45 pm. There were no injuries and the fire consumed approximately 1/4 of an acre of wooded property. The cause is under investigation.

Fast Moving Brush Fire on Whaley Hollow Road

A fast moving brush fire was reported in the rear of 630 Whaley Hollow Road at 12:28 pm on Wednesday afternoon. Assistant Chief Scott Tucker was first on scene and reported a working brush fire with partial involvement of a backyard shed. Engine 7 was the first due engine company commanded by Lieutenant Kevin Cady. Engine 4 and Engine 5 came in behind Engine 7 for manpower assistance. Rescue 3 was at the scene initially to assist with the knock down of the fire, but was put back in service to handle EMS runs. Western Coventry Tanker 18 and a Lake Mishnock FD Tanker provided a water supply. Companies were tied up on scene for 1 1/2 hours. Chief Robert Seltzer established "Whaley Hollow Command" upon arrival on scene and Chief Tucker was in command of Operations. The head of the fire was knocked down in about 15 minutes and the remaining time on scene consisted of wet down. There were no injuries associated with the fire. The cause of the fire was open burning of yard waste and leaves.

Engine 4 Responds to Brush Fire, Calls for Assistance

Engine 4 responded to the area of 26 Trafford Park Drive for a reported brush fire in the woods. The fire was located approximately 900 feet in the woods behind 26 Trafford Park Drive. The alarm came in at 12:30 am this morning. When Engine 4 arrived, Captain James Cady determined that additional crews would be needed to stretch forestry hose to the fire as well as assist with the extinguishment. Central Coventry Engine 3 was dispatched along with Anthony FD Engine 2. The fire was extinguished in about 1 hour and the apparatus returned in service at 2:00 am. The fire is believed to have been started by youths that may have been congregating around the Tiogue Elementary School.

Engine 4, Squad 3 & Rescue 6 Respond to an Auto Accident

Central Coventry Engine 4, Squad 3, along with Hopkins Hill FD Rescue 6 responded to the intersection of Tiogue Avenue and South Main Street at approximately 12:30 this afternoon. The incident involved two motor vehicles with one person injured. The injured person was transported to Kent County Hospital with minor injuries. Lieutenant David Gorman, Acting Platoon Commander for the day shift, was officer-in-charge of the scene.

Rescue 3 and Engine 4 Respond to Industrial Accident

Rescue 3 and Engine 4 were dispatched to 11 Industrial Drive at 1:45 PM, Friday, April 3rd. for a reported industrial accident. Apparatus arrived on scene to find a male patient that had cut off the tip of his finger while working with a drill press. The patient was conscious and alert. The patient met rescue personnel at the front door of the facility. Lieutenant Matt Medeiros and Paramedic Mike DeCesare treated the patient and transported him to the Trauma Center at Rhode Island Hospital.

Rescue 3 Responds to Medical Call

Central Coventry Rescue 3 and Engine 4 responded to a medical call at the Mapleroot Park at approximately 11:20 am on Thursday, April 2, 2009. The crew was headed by Platoon Commander Lieutenant Kevin Schnell as four EMTs worked a medical call. Lieutenant Russ Giles was the rescue officer responsible for medical care. Patient was transported to Kent County Memorial Hospital.

One Car Motor Vehicle Accident on Hill Farm Road

Tuesday evening at approximately 9:00 pm, a single vehicle accident occurred on Hill Farm Road at the intersection with Wisteria Drive. There was one occupant that sustained non life-threatening injuries and was transported to Kent County Memorial Hospital. Rescue 7 and Engine 4 handled the incident.
